Security Criteria

The documents below are available to assist in understanding and implementing physical and technical security standards in and around Smithsonian Facilities. In addition, the National Capital Urban Design & Security Plan, an NCPC document dated October 2002, and including the November 2004 Addendum is provided to assist in understanding security issues involved in designing in the city of Washington, DC. Please contact your COTR to obtain these documents:

  • Smithsonian Security Design Criteria for New Construction and Major Modernization Projects, published by OPS including several emails explaining how these criteria are to be implemented.
  • Protective Design Standards for Technical Security, Revision 8, dated December 27, 2004.
