Energy Management
The
Energy Management
(EM) group oversees a $28 million federal utility budget
and is responsible for the purchase of all utilities (Electricity,
Natural Gas, Steam,
Fuel Oil, Water
and Sewer, and Chilled Water) for Smithsonian facilities
worldwide. The Energy Management group is responsible for
the certification of all utility bills, negotiating and
contracting with vendors for the supply of energy. EM is
responsible for implementing an energy conservation
program that encompasses all SI facilities that focuses
on reducing energy consumption and dollar cost. Responsible
for performing annual inspections of all facilities and
developing energy conservation projects to be done by contractor
or by in house forces as a result of facility inspections.
Serves as liaison with the Department
of Energy and other federal and private groups to ensure
the latest energy saving technologies are being installed
throughout Smithsonian facilities. Reviews all construction
and renovation projects to ensure that the latest energy
conservation strategies are being incorporated in new designs.
EM maintains a database that tracks energy use and consumption
including an annual executive summary delineating successes
of the Energy Management Program.
